Amazon product image size checker
The Amazon product image rule that trips up most sellers is the main-image layout: 500–10,000 px on the longest side, the product filling about 85% of the frame, on a pure white background. Check any photo against these rules locally in your browser.

How to use it
Size is only half the main-image rule
Pixel size is the part a tool can measure, but the main image rule is really about composition. Amazon wants the product to fill roughly 85% of the frame, fully inside the borders, on a pure white background of RGB 255,255,255, with no placeholder text and no extra copies of the product in the same photo. When you drop a file here, the checker confirms the size window and the white-background read at the edges. The 85% coverage and crop rules are visual judgments — compare your photo against your own category's style guide, then use the white-background row to confirm the studio backdrop is clean enough.

Practical guide
Compose the main image once, correctly
- Frame the product at 85%. Zoom so the product nearly fills the frame with a small white margin, and keep every part inside the borders. A common trick is to leave roughly 7–8% white margin per side.
- Shoot on a pure white sweep. Studio gray and warm beige read as off-white to Amazon. A white sweep with even lighting, or a clean background removal, keeps the RGB at 255,255,255.
- One product, one view. Amazon allows the product only once in the main image — no front-plus-back composites, no mirror tricks. Save those for the PT01–PT99 alternate views.
- No text overlays. Text, badges, logos and placeholder images are banned from the main image; marketing callouts belong nowhere on Amazon images.
Beyond the pixel window, Amazon's main-image rules change per category. Shoes must be shown as a single shoe at a 45-degree angle facing left; adult-size clothing must be modelled standing (not seated or lying); accessories and multi-packs are laid flat without a mannequin; and mannequin parts of any kind are banned. The 85% fill rule and the pure white background are the constants across categories, which is why this checker reads them for every photo. When your product falls into a special category, layer its specific composition rule on top of the generic pass/fail rows here, and keep the extra angles for the PT01–PT99 gallery slots where lifestyle shots belong.
FAQ
Common questions
What size should an Amazon product image be?
The longest side must be between 500 and 10,000 pixels, and Amazon recommends 1000+ pixels for zoom. The product should fill roughly 85% of the frame in the main image.
How much of the frame should the product fill?
Amazon's main image rule says the product must fill about 85% of the image and sit fully inside the borders — nothing cropped off at the edges.
Can I use a lifestyle photo as the Amazon main image?
Only for certain product types. The standard rule is a pure white background on the main image; lifestyle shots are the exception, not the default.
How many product images does Amazon allow?
There is no fixed cap in the public requirements; Amazon requires at least one compliant main image and recommends 6+ additional images plus 1 video for the best buyer experience.
What makes an Amazon main image get rejected?
Common rejections: longest side under 500 px, non-white background, product cropped at the frame edge, placeholder text, or the product shown more than once in the same image.
