Amazon image requirements checker

Check any product photo against Amazon's official image requirements before you upload it: 500–10,000 px longest side, an accepted format, and a pure white main-image background. The check runs locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Check a photo against Amazon's rules

Drop the file you plan to upload as your Amazon main image, and the tool reports three things: whether the longest side falls inside Amazon's 500–10,000 px window, whether the format is one of JPEG / TIFF / PNG / non-animated GIF, and whether the outer frame of the image is pure white (RGB 255,255,255). Amazon also asks for a minimum 72 dpi and suggests 1000+ px so the zoom feature works. If a row comes back WARN, you usually just need to export a larger or cleaner copy from your editor; if it comes back FAIL, Amazon will reject the file at upload time or remove it from the listing.

Most common Amazon image failures

Amazon displays the image you upload within about 24 hours at most, and it does not guarantee your photo will be the one shown — Amazon picks and orders images from multiple sellers on the same ASIN. That makes the variant code in your filename matter: images are matched to listing positions like MAIN, SWCH and PT01–PT99, and a file named with the wrong variant can end up in the wrong slot or fail to attach. The technical requirements in this table are the floor; the visual rules in the main-image section are what keep your photo competitive. When you prepare a batch, name every file with the product identifier plus the correct variant code and test one upload before doing the rest.

Common questions

What is the minimum image size for Amazon listings?

Amazon requires the longest side of the image to be at least 500 pixels and no more than 10,000 pixels. Amazon recommends 1000+ pixels on the longest side so the zoom feature works.

Does Amazon require a white background?

Yes, the main image must have a pure white background with RGB value 255,255,255. Lifestyle shots are only allowed as main images for certain product types.

What file formats does Amazon accept for product images?

Amazon accepts JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg), TIFF (.tif/.tiff), PNG (.png) and non-animated GIF (.gif). JPEG is the recommended format.

How many photos should an Amazon listing have?

You must have at least one compliant main image, and Amazon recommends uploading at least 6 additional images and 1 video so buyers can evaluate the product.

How should Amazon image files be named?

Use product identifier + variant code + file extension, separated by periods, for example B000123456.MAIN.jpg. Spaces, dashes or other characters prevent the file from uploading.

What happens if my Amazon main image fails the requirements?

Images that fail the technical requirements cannot be uploaded, and listings without a compliant main image may be suppressed from search results until a valid main image is provided.
