Check a photo against Amazon's rules
Drop the file you plan to upload as your Amazon main image, and the tool reports three things: whether the longest side falls inside Amazon's 500–10,000 px window, whether the format is one of JPEG / TIFF / PNG / non-animated GIF, and whether the outer frame of the image is pure white (RGB 255,255,255). Practical guide
Most common Amazon image failures
- Upscaling a small file. Amazon refuses images under 500 px on the longest side and warns against artificially enlarging small photos — a 480 px export stays 480 px no matter how far you stretch it in an editor. Re-shoot or re-export at the source resolution.
- Off-white backgrounds. Gray, beige or warm-toned studio backdrops read as not-white to Amazon, which expects RGB 255,255,255 on the main image. Use a pure white sweep or a background-removal tool, then verify with the white-background row above.
- Cutting off the product. The main image must show the entire product inside the frame — no cropping of edges — with the product filling roughly 85% of the image. Tight crops are one of the most common manual-review rejections.
- Bad file naming for bulk upload. Batch uploads read the variant code from the filename (B000123456.MAIN.jpg). Spaces or dashes in the name stop the file from uploading at all.
Amazon displays the image you upload within about 24 hours at most, and it does not guarantee your photo will be the one shown — Amazon picks and orders images from multiple sellers on the same ASIN. That makes the variant code in your filename matter: images are matched to listing positions like MAIN, SWCH and PT01–PT99, and a file named with the wrong variant can end up in the wrong slot or fail to attach.
