Amazon image size checker

Verify an Amazon product image's pixel size in seconds: the longest side must be between 500 and 10,000 px, and 1000+ px is what unlocks the zoom feature. Drop your photo and this tool measures it locally in your browser.

Understand the size window

Amazon's technical spec is a window, not a single number: the longest edge of the image must be at least 500 pixels and at most 10,000 pixels. Inside that window, 1000+ pixels turns on the zoom feature that shoppers expect on product pages, and Amazon's own guidance recommends 1000+ for the best experience. If your file sits between 500 and 999 px, the checker marks it WARN: technically uploadable, but you lose zoom. Below 500 px the file cannot be uploaded at all, and Amazon warns against stretching small files to fake the resolution. Export from your camera or design tool at the real source resolution instead.

Size mistakes that hurt listings

The zoom feature is not decorative: when buyers hover or tap a 1000+ px image, Amazon loads a high-resolution version that stays sharp while they inspect the product. Photos under 1000 px lose that capability, and shoppers who cannot zoom often move to a competing listing with a zoomable image. For most product photography, a phone camera already shoots far above the threshold — the usual failure is a downscaled export. Keep your export pipeline at 1500–2500 px on the longest side, which stays inside the 10,000 px ceiling with room to spare, and re-export from the original file rather than from a thumbnail if you need a bigger image later.

One detail worth knowing: the 1000 px zoom threshold applies to how Amazon stores and serves the image, not to how it looks in search thumbnails — thumbnails are tiny either way. What changes with zoom is the buyer's ability to inspect the product closely, which matters most for categories where detail sells: electronics with ports, clothing with fabric texture, jewelry with finish. If your catalog mixes such categories, standardize exports at 2000 px on the longest side and you cover both the 1000 px zoom floor and a margin of safety for future uses like A+ content or sponsored-image crops. Files that size stay inside the 10,000 px ceiling with room to spare, and as JPEG they compress well under the sizes buyers can load quickly on mobile.

Common questions

What pixel size should Amazon product images be?

The longest side must be at least 500 pixels and no more than 10,000 pixels. Amazon recommends 1000+ pixels on the longest side so the zoom feature activates.

Why does Amazon recommend 1000 pixels if 500 is allowed?

500 pixels is the upload minimum. Images at 1000 px or more on the longest side enable the zoom feature, which is a strong factor in how buyers judge listing quality.

Can I enlarge a small photo to 1000 pixels?

No. Amazon explicitly warns against artificially enlarging small images, because upscaling lowers quality and the result looks pixelated to buyers.

Is there a maximum image size on Amazon?

Yes, the longest side must not exceed 10,000 pixels. Beyond that the file is outside Amazon's accepted specifications.

Does image size affect search ranking on Amazon?

A compliant main image is required for a listing to appear normally in search. Size itself is not a ranking keyword, but an image that fails technical requirements can get the listing suppressed.
